This panel was replaced at the wall that separates the garage from the living quarters of the home. It was originally installed flush inside the wall, however modern codes do not allow them to be replaced there. The panel must be brought out onto the surface of the wall with a chase built around it. The inspector for the City of Pleasanton, CA requested a picture of this so he could show others what it should look like when this is done properly.
This stucco wall has been opened up to allow for a new service panel to be installed. Notice the erratic crooked cut of the stucco. This is the proper way to remove the stucco versus cutting a straight line around the old panel, which would lead to cracking later on. Plastering contractors are very good and replacing the stucco to a matching finish. See picture at right.
This new panel replaced the one in the picture at left. The customer will eventually paint the wall to match.
